About CEER CAE Challenge

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) significantly enhances engineers' abilities to handle complex and time-consuming tasks efficiently. It encompasses various methods such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multibody dynamics (MBD), durability, and optimization, collectively known as computer-aided technologies (CAx).

Key areas in CAE include:

  • Stress Analysis: Using FEA on components and assemblies.
  • Thermal and Fluid Flow Analysis: Conducted with CFD.
  • Multibody Dynamics and Kinematics: For analyzing motion.
  • Process Simulation: For operations like casting, molding, and die press forming.
  • Optimization: To enhance product or process performance.

CAE Process Phases:

Pre-Processing: Defining the model and environmental factors.

Analysis Solver: Conducted on high-powered computers.

Post-Processing: Visualizing the results.

Automotive Industry Application: CAE tools help automakers reduce development costs and time, while improving vehicle safety, comfort, and durability. Much of the design verification is now done via computer simulations rather than physical prototype testing, though physical testing is still necessary for final verification.

Future of CAE: CAE needs to provide accurate results earlier in the design cycle, especially with the rise of complex, smart systems and new lightweight materials. The industry is working on more powerful solvers, better use of computer resources, and enhanced integration in product lifecycle management. This approach, known as predictive engineering analytics, aims to connect product design with product use for smarter products.
